(made from Petite Chapelle, Les Cherbaudes and Bel-Air, with the Les Champonnets fruit also added in 2016 as the production in this vineyard was tiny; vinified with 60% whole clusters and aging in 50% new oak): Bright red-ruby. Tangy, primary aromas of cherry stomp and licorice. Fine-grained and velvety on entry, then given punch in the middle palate by strong mineral energy. Very concentrated, tactile wine with superb medicinal reserve and restrained sweetness; the crop level here was just 25 hectoliters per hectare and it shows. Finishes silky and ripely tannic, with sneaky persistence to its black cherry fruit.

The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru includes the fruit from Champonnet this year, as there was only single barrel, 50% whole bunch with 50% new oak. It has a very perfumed bouquet with violet scents infusing the dark cherry, wild strawberry and boysenberry fruit, blossoming in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, beautifully integrated new oak with a poised, tensile and sustained finish that is pure class. Bon vin.
