(bottled last November; from a crop level of 30 hectoliters per hectare): Reticent aromas of pear, menthol, anise and flowers. Firm and a bit reduced on the palate but not hard, dominated in the early going by flavors of medicinal menthol and saline minerality. The mineral finish is softened somewhat by a subtle touch of sweetness.

Sample #1: Captivating scents of pear, white flowers, menthol and crushed rock; a real essence of Chassagne. Sweet and supple in the mouth, offering good depth and volume for the vintage. With its impressive texture and length, this should give early pleasure. Sample #2, from the Puligny side of the appellation: More mineral-driven and austere on the nose. Less opulent and pliant on the palate but still with lovely sucrosité to its mineral-driven flavors of lemon, lime and crushed stone. More inner-mouth tension here. The assemblage of these two lots should yield an excellent village wine.
