Pale medium red. A bit less floral and expressive on the nose than the Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, then denser on the palate, with its cherry, raspberry and spice flavors framed and lifted by solid acidity. Finishes with firm tannins and a saline quality. Drink the Bourgogne HCN now while waiting a year or two on this one.

The 2016 Bourgogne Pinot Noir suffered around a 50% loss in production due to frost. It has a fresh and generous bouquet with blackcurrant and raspberry preserve aromas. The palate has a lovely brightness to it, very well balanced with blackberry tinged with Earl Grey and a pinch of black pepper, leading to a refined if slightly short finish. This is a well-crafted Bourgogne Rouge.
Between Nuits and Flagey in four little parcels totalling less than 1 ha. Tank sample. Mid garnet. Bright sweet fruit with polish and charm. Not deep but very nicely balanced. Just a little bit of grip and a violet scent. Pretty good length. (JR)
