Tasted blind. Mid ruby colour. Powerful aromatics. Cedar, savoury spices and ripe red fruit. The palate is refined, with fairly silky tannins and charming, cool red fruit. Slick. A little bite from more austere tannin and acids on the back end, but this retains good balance through to a cool, lightly spiced finish. (TP)

The 2017 Moulin Saint-Georges has turned out nicely. Plump, juicy and forward, the 2017 will drink nicely right out of the gate. Inky blue and purplish fruit, licorice, spice and floral overtones are front and center in this mid-weight, supple Saint-Émilion from the Vauthier family.
Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Moulin Saint-Georges is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and slips easily out of the glass with lively scents if Morello cherries, mulberries and black raspberries plus hints of dark chocolate, camphor, tilled soil and truffles. Medium-bodied, the palate is lively and vivacious with plenty of spritely red and black berry flavors and a soft texture, finishing with lovely purity.
The 2017 Moulin Saint-Georges, which was bottled in April 2019, has a tight and backward bouquet with brambly red fruit, briary, cedar and light peppery aromas. It does not have the "oomph" of other vintages, though that is in keeping with the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with a very citric opening. As I remarked out of barrel, I would have liked the season to have conferred more complexity, particularly on the finish. But as such, it is a wine that keeps within its limits: easygoing, fresh but not cerebral.
