Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the nose of the 2017 Blason d'Issan is spicy with earth and tobacco undertones and black and red currants plus a waft of potpourri. Medium-bodied, it has a good fruit core, soft, plush tannins and an earthy finish.
The 2017 Blason d’Issan has a light, tertiary bouquet with blackberry and crushed strawberry aromas, and touches of pressed flowers. It just needs a little more cohesion. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, a little angular at the moment with a somewhat austere finish. Drink this over the next three to five years.
The 2017 Blason D'Issan comes from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot brought up in 30% new French oak, with the balance in once- and twice-used oak. It has a charming, forward style that offers classic Margaux elegance as well as notes of raspberries, spring flowers, sous bois, and sappy herbs. It's nicely textured, medium-bodied, and has loads of charm. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years.
