Diam closure. Tasted blind. Pale lemon colour. Fresh white pear. A little simple and neutral on the nose, though there is a touch of sweet baking spice. Lightly honeyed, with baking apple and caramelised citrus peel. Lemon-drop fruit and vanilla drive to the finish. (TP)

The 2017 La Louvière has a ton of character, especially within its peer group. Gravel, white pepper, iron, dried flowers and herbs give the 2017 striking savoriness to play off a core of bright red fruit. This is a wine of real character; I very much like the energy here.
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 la Louviere rolls out of the glass with notions of wild blueberries, black cherries and cassis with touches of bouquet garni and smoked meats. Medium-bodied, the palate is delicately played and refreshing with juicy, uncomplicated fruit and a chewy texture, finishing with an herbal lift.
The 2017 La Louvière has a well-defined bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry, cedar and light smoky aromas, the latter receding with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with an angular, edgy entry thanks to its acidity. Then it dovetails into a more classic Pessac-Léognan with a tertiary, truffle tinged finish. This La Louvière should drink well over the next 15-20 years.
About the producer
Wine has been made at this estate since the 1300s, but its modern history begins when the Lurton family purchased it in 1965. The property was in disrepair, but the Lurtons have restored the château, winery and vineyards.
