Score 91+/100 · Drink 2022-2030, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2018
Pale, bright straw-yellow. Pure but reticent aromas of pear, white stone fruits, menthol and licorice. At once sweet and juicy on entry, with nicely focused orchard and stone fruit flavors complemented by salty minerality. The fruitiest and juiciest of these '16s to this point (60% of the crop was lost to frost), but also communicates plenty of soil-driven minerality. More about intensity than weight, this very young wine still needs a few years to expand in the bottle. Finishes with a slightly sharp note of icy citrus fruits. This wine needs – and should reward – aging.
