Tasting notes
Very similar colour to the 2012. The nose might be rejected by some technically punctilious tasters as slightly oxidised. Good ripe, sweet fruit with much less obvious acidity than the 2012. Dry finish. Medium length. This wine could do with a bit more freshness and a bit less dustiness. (JR)

From magnum. Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Finely spiced open cherry nose but with a subtle raspberry and oak note underneath. Succulent and precise, long and aromatic. (WS)
Wilted violets come together with wet stones, blackberries and a dusting of cocoa as the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino slowly awakens in the glass. Cool-toned and sleek, this shows the best attributes of the vintage, with fresh acidity and mineral-inflected red berry fruits accentuated by a flourish of rosy inner florals and licorice tones. Its tannins are crunchy yet sweet, all contrasted by a tart tinge of sour blackberry and hints of dark chocolate.
Some evolution at the rim. Warm, ripe, berry fruit nose. Then cool and refreshing on the end. Lots of the right ingredients in here but still a coiled spring. (JR)
