The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux offers darker fruit than the 2014 Fonteny with blackcurrant and bilberry, wild hedgerow and dried rose petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with more fleshiness than the Fonteny on the entry, well-judged acidity with a slight muscular finish that will benefit from several years in bottle. Good potential here.

Bright medium red. Redcurrant, plum and a touch of reduction on the nose, with some obvious oak showing. Juicy and precise but a bit tight. Not especially sweet or pliant but the healthy acidity intensifies the red fruit flavors and energizes the middle palate. Finishes with firm tannic grip that calls for a little patience.

(these vines are now 45 years old): Bright red color. Aromas of black cherry, blueberry, coffee and mocha are lifted by a floral topnote. Sexy oak tones complement flavors of redcurrant and animal fur on the palate; displays sound acidity and moderate fleshiness. Finishes juicy and aromatic but with a touch of youthful dryness, as the wine will need further élevage and time in bottle to develop more supporting stuffing.
