The 2016 Corton Grand Cru is comparatively deep in colour. The bouquet is surfeit with red berry fruit, briary and crushed stone aromas, all well defined and beautifully assimilated with the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black and red fruit, well judged acidity, clean and crisp with gentle grip on the finish. This is a superb Corton that will give 20 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 30 closure)

(13.2% alcohol; from vines picked on October 4 or 5): Dark red-ruby. Aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, licorice pastille and Cuban cigar tobacco reminded me of a Côte de Nuits wine. Densely packed and energetic but a bit youthfully disjointed; improved nicely with air, showing a perfumed elegance, but will need time in bottle to absorb its youthfully edgy acidity. Finishes dense, floral and long.

The 2016 Corton Rognet Grand Cru, which comes in with a modest 13.2% alcohol and unusually for the domaine, it was harvested after and not before the Côte de Nuits. It has a very appealing bouquet with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit laced with wilted rose petals, the oak here seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, superb mineralité and a crystalline finish that urges you back for another sip. What and outstanding Corton Rognet. This comes highly recommended.
