Score 92-95/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

Bright, dark red with ruby highlights. Soil-driven aromas of dark raspberry, licorice and black and white pepper. Boasts lovely saline minerality and spicy depth to its sappy core of raspberry and black cherry fruit. Conveys a strong impression of density and energy and finishes with terrific dusty, tactile length. The yield here was about 32 hectoliters per hectare. Has the tannic spine for a long life in bottle.

Touches of wood and reduction dominate the fruit though some spice nuances can still be discerned. The notably finer medium-bodied flavors are also more evidently mineral in character and particularly so on the dusty and mildly austere finish that is much, much more complex. A wine of class and grace that should reward up to a decade of cellaring.

Three pièces. Tank sample. Bright blueish crimson. Intense and heady. A slightly modern spin on Amoureuses on the nose. Lovely palate – such fresh, supple fruit with amazing depth. Zesty with fabulous tension. Lip-smacking. And very long. (JR)
