Tasting notes
Like a good aged Riesling, the 2016 Saumur Blanc L’Échelier offers up toast, marmalade, honey and is there the slightest hint of petrol here? A bit less evolved on the palate than on the nose, it gives off a charming citrus freshness, but I'd love a little more depth.

The 2016 Saumur L'Échelier is from four parcels on Turonian limestone (tuffeau) soils. The bouquet is well concentrated, intensely floral and provided with almond aromas. Juicy yet well structured and elegant, the wine finishes with firm, still present tannins and good salinity. Fresh pineapple flavors on the palate and in the aftertaste. "2016 is similar to 2014 in its fresh and straight character," says Thierry Germain.
Dried lemon with white peach skin and apple in the nose. Some wet earth, mushroom and stone, too. It’s full-bodied and very tight with serious phenolic structure and a linear flow of acidity, which run together through the center-palate and keep it formed and fine. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
