Score 93/100 · Drink 2022-2036, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Oct 2021
From Senonian limestone soils, the 2016 Saumur Blanc Clos Romans opens with a very elegant and subtle bouquet of white flowers and caramelly notes (crème caramel). Tight but intense and very mineral on the palate, this is a concentrated and structured as well as elegant and persistent Chenin with ripe and even lush fruit. The finish is aromatic and delicate but also firm and very long, structured by fine tannins and the refreshing minerality. This is a great and complex Saumur, and for Thierry, one of the best whites he has produced, along with the 2014. The pH of the 2016 is 2.9, so no malolactic is done here.
