Score 93/100 · Drink 2022-2032, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2016

Dark, bright red. Reticent nose hints at cherry and smoky oak. Elegantly styled and smooth if a bit youthfully unforthcoming today, showing more red fruits than black. Brisk acidity energizes the middle palate but this wine will need time in bottle to deliver on its inherent complexity. Finishes with dusty tannins, excellent length and an impression of saline minerality.

The 2013 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru opens with intensely lifted, expressive aromatics. Deep and richly textured on the palate, the 2013 follows through with superb complexity and personality. Hints of tobacco, lavender and cedar open up in the glass, adding to the wine's pedigree. Beams of minerality and salinity support the finely sculpted fruit in an exotic, compelling Clos de la Roche that is full of intrigue.
