(vinified entirely with whole clusters; 55% new oak): Medium red, not particularly dark at the rim. Slightly carnal aromas of raspberry, cherry, mocha, spices and sexy oak. Boasts lovely sweetness and breadth but also terrific delicacy and definition to the fine-grained flavors of raspberry, spices, minerals and flowers. Showing more personality today than the Clos du Roi even if it's built for a long life in bottle. Finishes with seriously suave tannins and terrific length.

(100% vendange entier ; 50% new oak): Deep, dark red. Deep, brooding aromas of dark raspberry, bitter chocolate, licorice, mocha and pepper complemented by powerful musky minerality. Very dense and fine-grained, with its sexy sweetness leavened by pungent pepper and mineral notes. This utterly seamless wine finishes with strong but totally buffered tannins that saturate the front teeth and compelling lingering perfume of raspberry, spices, earth and flowers. Superb.

The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1Er Cru les Malconsorts is 100% whole cluster, though you cannot tell that on the nose. It has wonderful definition that is very perfumed and floral, real pinoté here that just expands with each swirl. The palate is supple, saline on the entry with super-fine tannin, very pure and detailed with an exquisite, poised, sophisticated finish that is real Malconsorts. This is just sublime.

100% whole bunch, 50% new oak. Deep crimson. Much more relaxed than the Côte de Beaune wines although there is some of the Vosne freshness. Grainy tannins on the end. Good terroir expression even if not as vivid as some. Some vibration on the end though. (JR)
