The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru has a very focused, well-defined, quite spicy bouquet with ample red fruit and hints of black fruit that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is well balanced, with quite saturated tannin and good acidity, but dense and rather opaque at the moment. This is a Nuits Saint-Georges with real matière, grippy on the finish and demanding several years in bottle. But the potential is here. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Dark red. Slightly less expressive on the nose today than the village Gevrey, with aromas of plum, cherry, mocha and earth joined by a note of woodsmoke. Boasts good thickness and a restrained sweetness but less showy and interesting today than the Gevrey--more medicinal and closed, and in need of time to fill in. Tannins are ripe and dusty. The preceding samples can be enjoyed early but this wine really demands at least three or four more years in the cellar.

The 2015 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Argillats has a lovely oyster shell tinged bouquet with joyous black cherry and bilberry aromas. I appreciate the precision of this Nuits Saint-Georges, hints of violets emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a touch of orange sorbet infusing the dark cherry fruit with a saline touch on the finish. Keeping its cards close to its chest, I suspect it will offer much more with two or three years in bottle.

50% new oak. Mid ruby. Light and sweet and racy on the nose. Really sleek and polished. Massive charm. Bitter cherries and focus. You could almost enjoy this already! (JR)
