Tasting notes
Really rather refined and classy on the nose. Polished claret with lovely balance. Lots of acidity and tannin on the end. Chewy for now. Dusty and dry on the end. Lifted and fresh. Still a little under-integrated. Tar and cassis liqueur. Sucky-stony quality. Very refreshing. Sinewy.

Matured for 12 months in French (25% new) and American(10% new) hogsheads. Bright colour; a testament to the formidable skills and experience of the Penfolds winemaking team: five very different regions (Wrattonbully, Coonawarra, Padthaway, McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley) and a Magimix assembly of oak treatments. The bouquet is utterly convincing, as is the genetic expression of cabernet sauvignon on the long, powerful, medium-bodied palate - which brings with it a silver platter of cabernet tannins. A blend of Coonawarra, Padthaway, McLaren Vale and Barrossan Cabernet fruit, this impressive Bin 407 spent 12 months in French and American oak hogsheads. It has an inviting nose of blueberry, cassis and cedar with a touch of tea leaf. The palate is smooth and sleek with round, grainy tannins that don’t lack grip or substance, and a constant pulsing presence of linear acidity. Cola, cream, blackcurrant and blueberry notes are the main characters here, with a mineral, wet stone backdrop to a persistent and tapering finish.
