Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Sérafin's 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny has a feisty, vivacious bouquet with hints of blueberry and cassis filtering through the red fruit. It is quite high-toned, but it has an attractive effervescent quality. The palate is well balanced, quite oaky, although that is integrated with the fruit, dovetailing into a spicy, animal, almost Rhône-like finish. If you like a bold Gevrey-Chambertin then this is the ticket—not the style I would personally seek but well made and enjoyable for what it is. Tasted September 2017.

Healthy dark red. Restrained plum and red cherry aromas are complicated by hints of mocha and game. At once sweet and vinous, with the red berry and licorice flavors lifted by a peppery element. Lovely grain and density of material here--in fact, this is quite horizontal in the context of the vintage. Dusty tannins coat the mouth.
(these vines are 55 years old): Good bright, dark red. Sexy Gevrey perfume combines dark cherry, violet and smoked meat. At once blacker in its fruit character and cooler than the Corbeaux, with a menthol/minty aspect giving energy and definition to the mid-palate. Nicely balanced, fresh wine from a crop load of about 35 hectoliters per hectare.
