The ripe fruit in this shows richness and power, even on the nose, with dried strawberries, raspberries, lemon zest and rose petals. Earthy decadence adds even more richness. Full-bodied, muscular and powerful. Flexing its muscles. Give it five to six years to soften. Try after 2024.

(the yield here was around 45 hectoliters per hectare; from three different sources): Bright medium red. Cool scents of black raspberry, cocoa powder and bitter chocolate lifted by a floral quality. Sappy, thick and deep, with its pliant, concentrated dark berry flavors enlivened by high notes of minerals, menthol and flowers. This very nicely balanced Suchots finishes with substantial dusty tannins and excellent rising floral length. (Jadot did not make a Beaux-Monts in 2016.)

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots has a rather tight-knit and laconic bouquet that like other Suchots, seemed a bit fatigued by the vintage (although it was only slightly affected by frost). The palate is medium-bodied with an angular entry, quite linear and strict for a Suchots, with an orange peel and brown spice-infused finish. Fine, if just missing some opulence.
