Tasting notes
2015 – 99 points: A stunning wine. This is the best Testamatta ever made. Fascinating aromas of red fruits, tea, bark and wet soil as well as fresh leather. Full body, silky tannins and a juicy finish. I love the tension and texture of this great red. So gorgeous to taste now but better in 2021. Full body, fine and silky tannins and a long and beautiful finish. Love the persistence and intensity. Salty undertone at the end. Needs two to three years to open. Full body, firm tannins and a persistent finish. Shows zest and liveliness. Drink or hold until 2017. Lovely aromas of berries, chocolate and walnuts follow through to a full body with loads of fruit, and chewy tannins that are polished and velvety. Pure sangiovese. Needs at least four to five years of bottle age still. Try in 2017. Nov 2013, www.jamessuckling.com

2007 – 96 points: A closed, tight red with wonderful depth. Lots of dried-berry, cherry and floral character. Full and chewy but polished. Goes on for minutes. Wait at least three more years: try in 2018. Oct 2014, www.jamessuckling.com

About the producer

Based just outside Florence, Bibi Graetz is something of a maverick in the Tuscan wine scene. Working with old vineyards of indigenous grapes around Chianti, he produces intense wines classified as IGT Toscana; not fitting neatly in either the Super Tuscan or Chianti camp.
