Tasting Notes
Fruit forward on the nose, could almost be in Pomerol as plums and dark fruit leap from the glass. Then it’s classic Piedmont as secondary notes of herb, and spicy, leathery notes take over. Glides across the palate; this is silky, opulent and rich but balances with a freshness of acidity and perfectly judged tannin that keep everything perfectly balanced. Open, inviting and seamlessly put together by a master craftsman. A wonderful expression of the grape. Jul 2017, FINE+RARE, Drink: 2017-2030+

Voerzio's 2011 Merlot is soft, silky and nuanced from start to finish. Sweet herbs, tobacco, plums and leather are all woven together in a supple, accessible Barolo built on a total sense of balance and class. Even though this is clearly Merlot, there is also plenty of the house's signature textural elegance. The Merlot is a bit of a rare bird in this range, but it more than holds its own, even served after all the Barolos. Mar 2015, www.vinous.com, Drink: 2017-2026
