Tasting notes
Based in Magreid. 50 ha and all farmed biodynamically. He was a pioneer in using oak and single vineyards, and he is still in the avant garde in planting obscure varieties such as Blatterle (labelled Comet), or some varieties that are rare in Italy, eg Assyrtiko. Fermented in barrique and aged on lees. Selected by Walter Speller for his masterclass. Ripe and lightly toasty aroma, a little buttery. Creamy oak spice on the palate, caressing in its texture but with a cool citrus, peach and mealy character. Quite ripe but on the finish there is a lovely mineral freshness. Great length and ‘not trying to be burgundy’ suggests Walter Speller. (JH)

The 2014 Alto Adige Chardonnay Löwengang (aged on the lees in barrique for 11 months) is a creamy and thick expression of the grape. The wine offers beautiful intensity with apricot, honey and vanilla custard. Some 37,500 liters were produced. The mouthfeel is opulent and rich, but carefully balanced at the same time.
