2011 Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses

Tasted blind in a line-up of 2011 Amoureuses in Holland, this 2011 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses has the brightest color of the first four. Very clear and almost New World in appearance. The nose is quite high-toned and what you might describe as “flash” for an Amoureuses, the aromatics certainly aiming for the more opulence side of the vineyard. But it does not have a sense of naturalness, seems a little forced. The palate is ripe on the entry with slightly hard tannins for an Amoureuses. It feels a little pinched and rather forced in the winery, perhaps with some acidification. Very primal, but it lacks charm and feels a little rustic. Tasted June 2014.
