Tasting notes
Much like the corresponding Frühlingsplätzchen, this displays alkaline, saline, kelp-like scents. Over and beyond that comes a mouthwatering, saline, nutty savor akin to raw oyster liquor. A glossy, expansive yet buoyant palate perpetuates these maritime themes, and introduces brightly juicy fresh white peach and lime – though one can assert with confidence that this wine is not primarily about fruit! Iodine-tinged, sweetly-saline suggestions of shrimp shell reduction add further allure, and ore-like, peaty undertones an intriguingly sinister dimension en route to a downright reverberate not to mention refreshing finish that pulls out all the mineral stops on the Riesling organ.

The 2015 Halenberg Riesling GG opens with a dark, smoky and very stony bouquet with some yeasty flavors. It is clear, piquant, very racy, pure and lean rather than rich. It is a picture book Schäfer-Fröhlich Riesling as well as a great Halenberg. The 2015 has so much finesse, elegance and purity but is also generous in its fruit combined with impressive length and clarity. This is a wine like glacier water and couldn't be more clear.
The herbaceous fragrance is green, pure and clean and does not mind showing a little stone fruit. An initial, sweet notion of ripe fruit on the palate is soon caught up in a crunchy expression of mint and sorrel. It’s as if the minerality has been lying in wait, as its stone-dusty impact continues to grow towards the finish. (MS)
