Fenocchio's 2013 Barolo Cannubi offers reasonably good mid-palate depth, with good aromatic lift and decent balance. Overall, though, the 2013 is short, compact and uninspiring, especially considering the vaunted site from which it emerges. The dried out fruit suggests the 2013 is an early drinker.

Here's a wine of depth and intensity. The 2013 Barolo Cannubi starts relatively slowly with mounting aromas of forest berry, crushed mineral and savory tobacco. It reaches full regime after a few moments in the glass and shows pretty aromatic layering all the while. The finish is dry and firm, although the tannins are already well integrated within the flesh of the wine. Only 3,500 bottles were produced.

Wow. This is so perfumed and beautiful with scents of berry, walnut, dried herb and cherry. So subtle. Full body, super integrated tannins and a long finish. Gorgeous. Best Cannubi this year? Drink or hold. Jul 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
