The 2013 Barolo Sotto Castello di Novello is a bit dry and flat upon first examination. The wine's texture is rich, but the aromas appear evolved and aged. There is less elegance here and more brawn and muscle instead. There is a note of cherry sweetness on the close.
Dark red cherry, wild flowers, smoke, licorice, tobacco and incense are all found in the 2013 Barolo Sotto Castello di Novello. A powerful, authoritative wine, the 2013 has quite a bit of tannic underpinning to support its rich fruit. I would cellar the 2013 for at least a few years to allow some of those tannins to melt away. Time in the glass brings out the wine's aromatic dimension and a measure of brightness not found in the other 2013s.
