Dense and condensed with blackberry, blueberry and dark-cherry character. Medium body and a fresh finish. Lovely energy. Mar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com

Offers a blast of boysenberry and plum sauce notes backed by a slightly woodsy spine of well-roasted apple wood and charcoal flavors, ending with a slightly impinged feel. Wait-and-see approach here. Apr 2017, James Molesworth, www.winespectator.com

The 2016 Le Clos du Beau-Père looks like it will offer considerable pleasure right out of the gate. Succulent black cherry, plum, chocolate, spice and sweet French oak give the wine its racy, voluptuous personality. The 2016 is not an especially subtle nor complex wine, but it scores big in the pleasure department. Lavender, rose petal and sweet spice notes add lift. The 100% new oak is already very nicely integrated. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com

The 2016 Le Clos de Beau Pere from Jean-Luc Thunévin, which includes 15% Cabernet Franc, has a nicely defined, blackberry and quite stony bouquet that needed a little encouragement from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, lively black cherry and boysenberry fruit, quite structured and maybe just missing a little length on the finish. But it might be the most elegant Le Clos de Beau Père that I have tasted to date. It is a strong follow-up to the 2015. Apr 2017, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2021-2035
