Tasted blind. Big and bold, with no rough edges. Good freshness and vigour. Quite a bit of acidity. (JR)

The third vintage in which 6-7% of fully ripe Petit Verdot has been included. Fairly deep purplish crimson. Intriguing, distinctive nose that combines great ripeness with an intriguing minerality. Lots to chew on but the tannins are ultra-ripe and there’s an attractive savoury note to this. Very dry finish. Attractive combination of opulence and refreshment. (JR)

The 2016 Couvent des Jacobins (82% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot) offers a deep ruby color as well as a moderately intense nose of black cherries, damp earth, chocolate, and some gravelly minerality. With subtle oak (it was raised in 45% new oak), beautiful density and depth of fruit, and good acidity, it's a classic 2016 that will benefit from short-term cellaring.
