Tasting notes
A delicious wine that can already be approached with pleasure, the 2016 La Gurgue bursts with aromas of blackberries and cherries mingled with hints of licorice and violets. Medium-bodied, ample and seamless, it's a charming, enveloping wine that exhibits beautiful purity of fruit, supple structuring tannins and a nicely defined finish. It exemplifies the elegant, sensual style typical of this Sousans property.

The 2016 La Gurgue has turned out beautifully. This gorgeous Margaux Cru Bourgeois packs a serious punch, with plenty of blue/purplish berry fruit, grilled herbs, menthol, licorice, smoke and tobacco. Succulent and racy to the core, La Gurgue hits all the right notes. I would prefer to drink the 2016 over the next decade or so, while the wine retains its youthful juiciness.
Mid crimson. Lightish in weight but quite luscious in terms of ripeness. Floral top note. Pretty and Margaux with a light touch even if not that dramatic. (JR)
The 2016 La Gurgue is absolutely delicious. Scents of sweet tobacco, herbs, licorice and new leather lend aromatic intrigue, but it is the wine's overall balance that stands out most. Deep and layered in the glass, but with terrific energy and freshness, the 2016 hits all the right notes, although it is perhaps just a touch compact. This is a strong showing. Tasted two times.
