A wine that we regularly have on standby at home, because it usually overdelivers for the price. The exceptional 2016 vintage is a case in point, and you are going to get a muscular wine that just could be a Pauillac, with its cassis and bilberry fruits, and clove spice notes.

Blackberry, licorice and tar aromas follow through to a full body with chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. A blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Needs a year or two to soften. Drink after 2020.

55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot.  Inky crimson. Not very open on the nose, though there is some oak spice in evidence alongside the dusty black fruit. Very dry in texture, could do with a little more flesh. (JH)

The 2016 D'Escurac has a lively fresh and joyful bouquet with plenty of blackberry and raspberry aromas, a sense of minerality coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, svelte in texture with luscious blackberry and tar towards the more Right Bank-style finish. Not bad at all.
