Tasting notes
A blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 Montlandrie has a deep garnet color. After a swirl or two, notes of blueberry preserves, dark chocolate, stewed plums, and Chinese five spice erupt from the glass, with underlying suggestions of molten licorice and iron ore. The full-bodied palate is richly fruited with black fruit preserves and exotic spice layers, wonderfully offset by a lively line of freshness and beautifully plush tannins, finishing long and fragrant. Yum!

Although it has the same qualitative style as Les Cruzelles or La Chenade, the 2016 Montlandrie, offers aromas of flowers, plum, graphite and menthol, as well as a more chalky texture. It’s pure, clean, long and fleshy with powdery tannins and a long, saline finish. There’s no reason to wait.
Dark and bold, with plenty of fruit extract. Full, intense, lots of drive; powerful, well-managed tannins. A condensed package, merits another year in bottle.
It is hard to find a better value Bordeaux than this. The wine is soft, forward, earthy, fresh and fruity, with lush textures and loads of sweet, ripe, lifted fruits in the finish. This is drinking great today and should remain at this level for at least 7-10 years.
