Tasting notes
The 2016 Trotte Vieille shows just a little oxidation on the nose, red berry fruit mixed with sloes and light fig scents, developing more ferrous scents with time. The palate is framed by slightly drier tannins, rendering this more austere than its peers, whilst the finish feels a little muddled and needs more focus. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

The 2016 Trotte Vieille is blessed with a finely tuned bouquet of brambly red berry fruit, orange pith and light rose petal scents that unfurl with aeration. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Fresh and pliant, with a gorgeous, silky finish that feels very persistent. This is an utterly charming and noble Saint-Émilion. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
Tasted blind. Big and blobby. More freshness please. Round with ripe fruit. Long and rich. Chapeau! (JR)
