An antique release. Aromas akin to Fernet Branca, pine needle and resin. Bitter chocolate and cocoa lacing the tannins, with a waft of cherry liqueur suggestive of a warm year. And very warm it was. Yet there is nothing jammy or overt about this. Just a sumptuous patina of ripe fruit, herbal lift and thick, moreish tannins amped with life. Drink or hold.

Very ripe and very raisiny, with a smoky, almost burnt undertone. Full-bodied, with charred wood and pruny flavors. Silky tannins. A bit raw right now, but should improve nicely. Best after 2004. 38,000 cases made.
