Brilliant ruby-red. Intense cherry, black raspberry and violet scents take on smoky mineral and licorice overtones as the wine opens up. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering sappy red and blue fruit flavors that slowly deepen and spread out on the back half. Shows excellent focus and a suave floral echo on the impressively long finish, which is energized by zesty acidity and a repeating red berry flourish.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Obelin was the result of a blind tasting selection that by chance ended coming entirely from the Shea Vineyard. It has a very pure nose with dark berries, touches of truffle oil and walnut complementing the fruit, very detailed with wilted rose petal scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy redcurrant and raspberry, the tannins a little "crunchy" in the mouth. It veers to more loganberry and huckleberry fruit towards the finish, laced with white pepper and sage, the aftertaste sustained for 30-45 seconds. It is a complex, almost mercurial Pinot Noir revealing different facets in the glass and no doubt it will be fascinating to see how this ages in bottle.
