Tasting notes
Good full red. Warm aromas of mocha and brown spices, with strong soil tones. At once ripe and powerful, but classically dry and characterized by a rather serious spine. This one has a youthful medicinal reserve and finishes with substantial dusty tannins that hit the palate late. A distinctly warm style of wine, and one that will requite a good four or five years of additional bottle aging.

The 2001 Barbaresco Riserva Rabaja is more generous than the Ovello, with a sweeter and more expansive core of ripe fruit and suggestive nuances of roses, menthol, licorice, minerals and tar. It offers outstanding length as well as definition with, building, yet fine tannins and a gorgeous balsamic note to cap off the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.
