The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is plump, juicy and immediate. Although the aromas and flavors are a bit forward, the 2009 has more than enough pure depth to drink well for at least a few years. New leather, spices, licorice and menthol wrap around the juicy finish.

The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is a nervous wine that shows less in terms of meat or gristle for you to chewy on. Subdued tones of black fruit and spice are loosely woven throughout the lean texture of the wine. The impression it gives is of a wine that will fade fast. Drink: 2015-2018. Just mid ruby with orange-tinged rim. Perfumed cherry compote on the nose. Soft, intense ripe fruit with powdery tannic waves. Seems ready now. (WS)
