Green-hued yellow. Heady, mineral-driven citrus and pit fruit scents show outstanding clarity and pick up a suave floral nuance as the wine stretches out. Sappy, penetrating and pure, offering gently sweet pear, orange and apricot flavors that are given a spicy edge by a kick of candied ginger. The mineral note repeats strongly on a very long, juicy finish that echoes the pear and floral notes.

Stephan commented that he did everything he could to maintain freshness in his 2015 whites, and he’s done a fabulous job with both Condrieu releases. One of the finest Condrieu out there is unquestionably the Vignes de Jacques Vernay, which shouldn’t be confused with Georges Vernay. Coming all from the La Combe lieu-dit and very old vines, the 2015 Condrieu les Vignes de Jacques Vernay dishes up a heavenly bouquet of tangerines, flower blossoms, honeysuckle, buttered peach and ample minerality as well as full-bodied richness, vibrant acidity and purity, and a sensational finish. Give bottles 6-12 months and enjoy over the following 4-5 years.

Pretty full yellow robe. The nose gives an air of camomile tea, roasted nuts, a latent aroma of ripe greengage plum. There is a hint of aniseed helping to free it up. The palate coasts along in stylish fashion, with enjoyable gras rolling through it. The finish brings in toasting, honey. It avoids the over robust manner of some this year, but has the body for seafood dishes, white meats. It’s going to live pretty well, is well sustained. Oct 2016, www.drinkrhone.com
