The 2014 Bourgogne Rouge Croix Blanche, dark in color, has a really quite lovely bouquet, one of the best that I encountered for a generic red Burgundy. Crisp blackberry and briary scents, with fine mineral aromas even at this level. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannin, and black cherry and raspberry coulis. It just does not quite have the persistence of say, a decent village cru, but it deserves a round of applause.

Based on equal-sized parcels in Vosne and Chambolle. Dark crimson (more dark blue than in many other 2014s). Sumptuous nose. Lots of pleasure. Fine with a light damson bitter-fruit finish. (JR)
