Scavino’s 2013 Barolo is a fresh, inviting wine that captures the mid-weight style of the year nicely. Sweet red cherry, anise, mint, blood orange and exotic spice notes are laced into the super-appealing finish. This is a delicious, entry-level offering from Scavino and one of the better editions of this wine I can recall tasting. The straight Barolo is a blend of fruit from a number of sites, including Mariondino, Manescotto, Vignane, Terlo, Albarella, San Bernardo and Pernanno.

The Paolo Scavino 2013 Barolo sports the depth and elegance that famously characterizes the house style. Fruit is sourced from various points across the appellation and the specific blend changes according to the needs of the vintage. Among the various Barolo wines made by this estate, this wine is the most accessible and approachable for sure. The bouquet offers compelling aromas of black fruit and dried blackberry and there's plenty of spice, licorice and tar at the back. The wine shows its complexity as well as its varietal purity. You'll notice the handwritten signature of patron Enrico Scavino on the front label.

Wow. Love the perfumes to this with plums, cherries and hints of flowers. Full body, chewy tannins, polish and precision. Relatively delicate finish. Drink in 2018. Jan 2017, www.jamessuckling.com

The 2013 Barolo Carobric represents a blend of fruit from three sites: Rocche di Castiglione, Cannubi and Bric del Fiasc. To my palate, this wine really stood out as different from the other wines in the Scavino portfolio. There is a rougher or greener note here that I did not encounter in the others. The wine shows a youthful and nervous personality overall with dark fruit and grilled rosemary. Aug 2017, www.robertparker.com
