Notable toasty oak aroma and flavour, the fruit is fresh but only just stands up to the oak. (JH)

The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St Jean has a well-defined bouquet with lemon zest, notes of chalk dust and granite. It is tightly-coiled at the moment but unwinds with time. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity, far more complex than the Village Cru with the 20% new oak lending weight on the finish. Fine.
