Tasting Notes
The lemon-colored 2015 Schloss Johannisberger Silberlack Riesling GG needs a lot of time to open up; it starts pretty reductive and with similar notes like FX Pichler's Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd in recent years. The wine is full-bodied, round, intense and very elegant on the palate. Provided with a persistent mineral structure and a vital acidity, it will go for many years. The typical persistent minerality, freshness and precise articulation of fruit is remarkable. Total production is 15,000 bottles. The GG is, after the Gelblack, the most successful wine of the domaine. I re-tasted it at the domaine when it was decanted for 2.5 hours and the wine was in fact more flinty and fruity on the nose, offering lemon flavors along with tropical fruit aromas. On the palate the grand cru is again powerful, pure and well structured, revealing a great complexity and length. It was bottled with just three grams per liter of residual sugar, but doesn't lack anything. This is a great GG. Oct 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2019-2030

This wine was bottled only days before the tasting, but it already has a stunning nose of perfectly ripe yellow peach as well as many subtle floral notes (chamomile, honeysuckle). On the palate, it is as elegant as it is concentrated, but only just beginning to show what it’s made of. The extremely long and subtle finish demands your full attention. It should age for decades.
