The 2015 Meursault Clos de la Barre has a simple nose that gains intensity with aeration, offering light pithy pear and peach skin scents and just a touch of Vervain tea. The palate is cohesive, and the oak is nicely assimilated with a fine bead of acidity. This is turning into an elegant Clos de la Barre, and given that it is a mere Village Cru, there is commendable tension on the finish, perhaps having evolved a touch more mineralité than the previous bottle that I tasted. Tasted at the Southwold Burgundy dinner at Hatched restaurant.

The 2015 Meursault Clos de la Barre is brilliant and has plenty of oomph and richness yet stays beautifully pure, vibrant, and chiseled on the palate. Notes of citrus oil, stone fruits, exotic flowers, brioche, and crushed rock-like minerality all give way to a medium to full-bodied, powerful Meursault that fleshes out beautifully with time in the glass. This is classic Meursault all the way, and while it’s drinking brilliantly today, it certainly has another decade or more of prime drinking.

(14% alcohol; on its finings): Pale bright yellow. Deep, ripe aromas of dried nectarine, peach and spices. At once silky and energetic, conveying a sappy character and an elegant texture. Finishes with sneaky length and a lemon zest dustiness that leaves the palate refreshed and should enable this wine to age. Lafon believes that a light filtration will further smooth out this wine.
