The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet Vide Bourse 1er Cru offers seductive scents of candied orange peel and white peach on the well-defined, intense nose. The saline palate is well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity, plenty of tension and a crisp, quite intellectual finish that wears the very subtle reduction with style. This shows well above its performance from barrel. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 10 closure)

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse, aged in 25% new oak, has a slightly timid bouquet that demanded coaxing from the glass, eventually offering scents of warm concrete, citrus peel and sea spray. I would like a little more cohesion. The palate is very fresh and taut on the entry. There is a fine thread of acidity here with almost a Puligny-like austerity towards the finish. Fine, though I prefer some of the top Saint-Aubins this year.
