Bright medium yellow. Dried stone fruits, fresh peach and a hint of smoky reduction on the nose, with notes of orange oil and spices bringing lift. More savory on the palate than the Meursault bottlings, showing a finer texture and greater harmony of elements. Finishes classically dry but with good delicacy, energy and length--and no harshness. Lovely classic Puligny character here: this is never a large-scaled wine like those Puligny premier crus in the Meursault Perrières neighborhood.

The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs Gains felt strict and rather austere on the nose, not quite delivering the personality and charm of the Meursault-Blagny poured just before it. The palate is more expressive with a touch of spice on the entry. Moderate weight in the mouth here and the acidity well judged, it just clams in a little towards the finish. Although it does has the weight to suggest that it will unfold once in bottle and given a couple of years to find its groove.
(from vines in the warmer lower part of this premier cru, next to La Truffière): Strong yellow peach flavor on the nose and palate. Ripe and stuffed with fruit if a bit blurry with alcohol on the back half. Will this wine absorb some of its baby fat and show more precision by the time it goes into bottle?
