Bright medium yellow. Aromas of pineapple, lemon zest, pear, licorice and menthol convey a faintly bitter quality. In a very rich but slightly exotic, aggressive style, with its pear and fresh herb flavors a bit dulled by some alcoholic warmth. Finishes a touch dry and hot. Not my favorite style, but I'd give it another year in bottle to lose some of its baby fat.

Richer on the palate than the Bourgogne and more textured. Oatmeal and spice along with lemony fruit. Good intensity and freshness in balance. (JH)

(Bouzereau has pulled up these degenerating 45-year-old vines for replanting; from a south-facing calcaire -rich site under Genevrières): Pale, bright yellow. White peach and dusty stone aromas convey an impression of lift. More backward and gripping than the Grands Charrons, offering more texture and concentration and a distinctly stony influence. There's still a creamy quality in the middle but an element of peppery herbs firms the finish.

The 2015 Meursault Village Le Limozin, aged in 25% new oak, felt a little withdrawn on the nose when I tasted it—a bit recalcitrant compared to the Les Grands Charrons. The palate is more expressive and delivers tangy mandarin and orange peel notes, a dab of brown spices matched with a fine line of acidity. There is a pleasing structure here as it grips the mouth but does not overstay its welcome. This is a well-crafted, delightful Meursault that should give 8-10 years of drinking pleasure.
