Tasting notes
There are three and a half barrels of the 2015 Musigny Grand Cru this year (there will be two in 2016 just in case you were wondering). I afforded the wine a couple of minutes to open in the glass. Initially it converted rock-inspired scents of wet granite and flint, then the blackberry and briary fruit emerges, flanked by dried violet scents that lend it an almost Amoureuses-like allure. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, finely tuned acidity, a gorgeous slightly grainy texture and disarming cohesion towards the sensual finish. It gives you everything you look for in a Musigny (and a bit more). Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2020-2050

(from a tiny parcel of only .17 ha). Here too the nose is reduced and quite toasty and all that can be discerned are background floral hints. Otherwise there is excellent size, weight and punch to the more obviously mineral-driven flavors that possess notably better precision and a much, much finer mouth feel thanks to the super-fine grained tannins while delivering even better depth and length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. I very much like the sense of Zen-like harmony here and this should effortlessly age for decades. This too is a “buy and forget you own it” wine. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
Tasted blind, the 2015 Musigny Grand Cru bursts from the glass with an extravagantly perfumed bouquet of violets, raspberries, rose petals, candied ginger and spicy new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and satiny, with an exquisitely elegant, seductive and layered profile, underpinned by succulent acids and concluding with a long and fragrant finish. Vougeraie's style was immediately apparent, but it finds its perfect foil in Musginy. Oct 2018, www.robertparker.com
