Intense purple, concentrated fruit, plenty of charm, good weight, slightly dry wood behind, then length of flavour.

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses has a very pure and seductive bouquet with both blood orange and orange rind infusing the black fruit, beautifully focused and with perhaps a greater degree of transparency than many recent vintages. You can feel the terroir here. The palate is underpinned by fine tannin and superb tension. There is a surfeit of energy here, avoiding any heaviness with effortless ease, those Asian spices and a pinch of white pepper enlivening the focused and sophisticated finish. This will equal the two grand crus in the long-term.

(from a .56 ha parcel). An exuberantly spicy, complex, pure and strikingly elegant nose is composed of black fruit, violet and plums aromas that are trimmed in just a hint of sandalwood. The equally complex, naturally sweet and rich mouth coating flavors exude so much minerality that they are like rolling small pebbles around in the mouth while displaying a seductively textured, refined and beautifully balanced finish that offers sneaky good length. This is class and grace personified though again note well that this is going to need plenty of time before it reaches its full apogee.

The Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses is a truly gorgeous and magnificent wine. The bouquet is bursting with ravishing sensual red sorbet like fruit – cool floral and intensely mineral driven. Delicate pomegranate, blackcurrant, blackberry and redcurrant fruit spiced with peony rose and a vibrant limestone minerality. On the palate long, intense and focused with a rich and sensual mid-palate fruit – very mineral driven and focused. Does not rival the Musigny for weight and power … but a truly outstanding effort.
