The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a powerful bouquet of ample red berry fruit laced with brown spices, still sporting some new oak to be subsumed with bottle age. The palate is well balanced and rounded in texture, displaying plenty of new oak, but this is simpatico with the fruit and there is impressive depth and substance to the finish. It will require several years in bottle, but I suspect this will evolve into a very fine Grand Cru. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Good bright, dark red. Sexy, fully ripe, expressive aromas and flavors of boysenberry, black raspberry, mocha, licorice and earth, lifted by a floral topnote. Then fat and silky on the palate, showing a pliant texture, a restrained sweetness and captivating inner-mouth perfume. Tightens up a bit on the very long, slowly mounting finish, with the fully ripe tannins arriving late. A very suave, aromatic Charmes in a feminine style, and finer and fresher than most examples from this grand cru in 2015. Winemaker Frédérique Bachotet presented this wine before her premier cru Les Cazetiers because she considers it to be finer and more elegant.

The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very intense and powerful bouquet with dark cherries, blackcurrant, iodine and pressed violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, yes, a little oaky at the moment, but there is clearly sufficient fruit to back that up and it fans out gloriously towards the blood orange infused finish. This is wonderful.
