The 2015 Marsannay Boivin reveals ripe but pure aromas of cherry, raspberry, plum preserve and fig, with fewer bass notes than the brooding Ouzeloy. On the palate, the wine is sappy, fine-grained and elegant on the attack, with good mid-palate depth and concentration, its finish taut and chalky. The combination of ripeness and energy here is attractive.

Bright red-ruby. Explosive nose melds red and black fruits, flowers, spices, licorice and menthol. Juicy, fine-grained and suave but youthfully backward, conveying an impression of medicinal reserve but also a sneaky sweetness to its purple fruit flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins and rising floral and spice notes. Already showing more personality than the Ouzeloy, this is a very complete Marsannay with a bright future.

Bright medium ruby. Medicinal aromas of blackberry, black cherry, menthol and crushed stone (this vineyard is rich in lava). Densely packed and impressively concentrated, with the fresh black fruit and licorice flavors conveying superb sucrosité without any undue weight. Finishes tactile, ripely tannic and very long, with terrific grip. This outperformer has the backbone to support a graceful evolution in bottle.

Enough wood toast is present to remark upon but not so much as to interfere with the clarity of the wonderfully fresh red berry, pomegranate and spice elements. There is once again good richness and volume to the generous medium-bodied flavors that also brim with dry extract that buffers the firm tannic backbone on the lingering and well-balanced finish. This excellent effort should reward up to a decade of cellar time. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
