Tasting notes
The 2015 La Tâche Grand Cru was picked on 7 and 8 September at 25 hectoliters per hectare. Having enjoyed the startling 1999 La Tâche in recent weeks, I was privately conjecturing how the 2015 would compare. It is more immediate on the nose compared to the Richebourg: shucked oyster shells, a tangible marine influence that permeates the exceptionally pure black fruit and then after three or four minutes, I noticed a distant hint of black truffle joining the fray. The palate is intriguing. It is very tightly wound at first, smooth and silky in texture but underneath there is fire in its belly: quite spicy and energetic. Then it delivers a very assertive grip on the structured finish as it coats the inner mouth, a La Tâche with otherworldly persistence, the tongue tingling two minutes after the wine has departed. If I can use a technical wine term...wow. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2025-2065

As is often the case in its youth, this easily possesses the most aromatic breadth of any wine in the range with an utterly kaleidoscopic nose that incorporates notes of Asian spice box elements, rose petal, lavender, lilac, orange pekoe tea and sandalwood. There is superb richness to the powerfully constituted flavors that possess outstanding delineation and intensity while displaying perhaps even more minerality than usual, all wrapped in a finish that slowly fans out as it sits on the palate. This is one classy wine that manages to do what only the greatest of burgundies can, which is to wow you with its power without weight mouth palate impression. And if all of this weren’t enough, the refinement and poise here are nothing short of riveting. While I am very careful when it comes to proclaiming that such and such a vintage of La Tâche will go down as one of the all-time greats, the 2015 version appears to have the potential to be one of them. Time will of course be the final arbiter but the underlying material is so good it’s difficult to be less than super enthusiastic. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
La Tâche is a expressive and outgoing wine with exuberant fruit focused by the mighty mineral framework of this great terroir and a fine balancing freshness from a the combination of a fine ph and a good acidity. The nose offers layers of juicy and cool fruit – a selection of red and dark forest berries – boysenberries, cassis and raspberries invigorated with red currant and pomegranate. On the palate plenty of power with layers of quite openly knit fruit – very generous – yet still focused by the firm and powerful mineral backbone. This is a big La Tâche .. and while it may not ultimately rival the mighty 1990 La Tâche .. it’s most certainly in the same league. Jan 2017, www.winehog.org
About the producer

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti or simply “DRC” is without doubt the most famous domaine in Burgundy and one of the most famous producers on earth. The Grand Cru vineyard from which it takes its name produces the world’s most expensive wine by a long margin.
